November 2024 Recap

Another month has passed us by. That means it’s time for a monthly recap of what happened here at Dresser’s Purest Honey in the month of November.

Better grab your coffee, November was a doozie of a month!

First up, near the beginning of the month we launched some new candles!! We released a holiday collection of beeswax candles and we also released some regular everyday type of fun candles. These turned out to be a huge hit at the holiday market we did over at John R Park Homestead. I had mentioned over on instagram that 2 of the new candles didn’t turn out, and that was a bummer but making candles is always a learning curve (one I felt was not safe to burn correctly- it was an interesting shape, and the other one was a dragon that I could not get it out of the mold without breaking it - like no matter what I did).

Also near the beginning of the month we finished feeding our bees. Going into the fall we feed our bees a sugar syrup, that way they have enough to feed off of until the spring time rolls around. Got our bees all tucked in for the winter, and they are looking good.

Next big thing that happened over here is that we moved! We’ll kind of. So myself, my husband and our kids moved out to a beautiful property. So we were definitely busy trying to get that all done before the holiday season. BUT with that being said, our new property has a big building that we are going to convert into our new honey shop! This is such big and exciting phase for us. Our goal is to have it up and running before fall honey harvest 2025 (but we think it will be done in the springtime!).

But wait, it gets better.

The new building is double the size of out current honey shop, and with the new one we are able to have a small storefront/showroom (just a small one, mostly for if you order online and want to pick up we have a dedicated space). This will also have inventory in stock so if you need to pop in to grab something it should be available.

So much goes into renovating a big building, not just the physically work. But we also have lots of logistics to work out, and paper work and all that fun stuff. But in the end, it should all be worth it.

As soon as we are done renovating it and have it ready to go we will announce the address, because we will be moving the entire business out here. If your reading this and you have always bought honey from our family farm and don’t want to change where you pick it up. Don’t worry, my grandfather (Kevin Dresser) will keep a small amount just in case!

Phew! That’s a lot to take in.

The last thing that we worked on over the month of November is prepping our bee order for the spring. Each spring we order a few more nucs to add to our bees, and it has worked well for us in the past. We get nucs, split bees and get swarms. For the 2025 year, I have decided to no longer get swarms from people (let’s be real, I still might get the odd one but it’s definitely not my favourite thing to do). We were also approached, and we have the opportunity to add a good amount of new bee yards in 2025. So we had a lot of planning to do, to see how many bees we have (hope to have in the spring), how many bees we think we need to add and where all the bees are going to be going. There is a lot of logistics that go into planning our bees.

Well I think that covers the important things that occurred for the month of November. I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring us, and don’t worry I’ll bring you all along so you can see the journey.

Cheers!
