Honey Extraction September 2024

Holy smokes!

What an August and September. With three kids aged 11, 7 & 6, we’ve been very busy with back to school routines and sports finishing up for the season. Plus my husband and myself both work full time, you could say we’ve been busy as bees!

With that to say, we spent a few weekends (that felt long and never ending haha) extracting our honey. Our big extractor is currently in storage as we had a huge building renovation earlier in the year, which meant we used our smaller extractor. It did the job just fine, it just took us longer than usual.

Now that the honey is extracted into barrels and 5 gallon buckets, we’ve been working on a few things. Getting all the beeswax caught up, melting, filtering, melting, filtering, etc. We repeat the process 3-4 times to ensure the beeswax is clean and free from any impurities. We have also been working on cutting out comb honey, which is a little later than usual for us. I generally harvest the comb honey the end of August, but things happen.

Anyway just thought I’d post a little update and share some photos from September, I’ve even added 2 short videos of the extraction for you to see!
